Gibson Longhorn Double Cutaway

Gibson USA's Guitar of the Month for November 2008 the Longhorn Double-cutaway in Trans Blue has a body design that consists of slightly extended asymmetrical cutaways on a solid piece of mahogany topped with an AA figured maple top. MORE INFO

White three-ply binding around the body and a traditional headstock add both beauty and protection to this electric guitar. And the improvements don't end there. A pair of EMG 85 active humbuckers deliver tone power and performance for any style of music while the L.R. Baggs electronics offer separate outputs for both the piezo and the humbuckers. This gives players the option of either blending the two sounds or using them individually thus allowing guitarists all types of sonic possibilities.

The neck is one-piece mahogany with Gibson's traditional '50s rounded profile topped by an ebony fingerboard with white acrylic small-block fretboard inlays created especially for the Longhorn. Also in keeping with tradition is the headstock's flowerpot inlay which dates back to the early 1900s and several of Gibson's historic mandolins and archtops. The Gibson USA Longhorn guitar is available only in Trans Blue finish. Production is limited to just 1000 instruments.

Gibson Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker

Carefully developed in close cooperation with Jett herself, Gibson's Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker features a lightweight, slab mahogany body with a Worn White finish.
The slim-tapered neck profile is handcrafted to the same specs as Jett's original guitar, with an ebony fingerboard and Gibson's classic, silk-screened gold logo on the headstock.

The tuners are mini-Grovers with authentic witch hat knobs, exactly as they are on Jett's guitar.

A kill switch replaces the normal Gibson toggle switch, and the body is outfitted with a period-correct black vinyl pickguard.

The classic, snarling growl of Jett's original Melody Maker is accurately captured by a single Gibson Burstbucker 3 zebra humbucker, slightly overwound with asymmetrical coils, unpolished Alnico II magnets, and all the punch and power of an original Gibson PAF pickup.

Add some typical Melody Maker appointments: 24-3 4-inch scale length, and standard Gibson Tune-o-matic and stopbar tailpiece and the result is a painstaking and heartfelt tribute to one of the most fearless, groundbreaking artists in rock and roll.

"I got my Melody Maker in 1977," the legendary Joan Jett says about the guitar she has made one of the most iconic instruments in rock and roll. "It was light and it sounded great. It was the guitar I had in The Runaways and then played on all my hits, like 'I Love Rock N' Roll' and 'Bad Reputation' and 'Do You Wanna Touch Me.' It's my baby."

The Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar was introduced in 1959 and priced for the beginning player but has been used by many well-known rockers since then, including Joan Jett.

Gibson Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker Specs:

  • Body Wood: Mahogany
  • Scale Length: 24-3/4"
  • Neck Joint: Set-in
  • Neck: Mahogany slim taper
  • Fretboard: Ebony
  • Neck Shape: C-Shape
  • Frets: 22

  • Fretboard Radius: 12
  • Bridge: Stopbar
  • Pickup Bridge: Gibson Burstbucker 3 Zebra
  • Pick guard: Black vinyl
  • Controls: Volume / Tone / Kill switch
  • Tuners: Mini Grovers with witch hat knobs
  • Hardware color: Chrome
